Planning the perfect dive trip requires understanding seasonal patterns, marine life migrations, and weather conditions. This comprehensive calendar will help you choose the ideal time for your next underwater adventure.

January – March: Peak Season Destinations

Maldives: This is prime time for the Maldives. The northeast monsoon brings calm seas, excellent visibility (30m+), and manta ray sightings on the eastern atolls. Water temperatures hover around 27-29°C.

Thailand (Similan Islands): The Similans are only accessible from November to May, with January-March offering the best conditions. Expect whale sharks, manta rays, and pristine visibility.

Philippines (Tubbataha): Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park opens its brief season from March to June. These remote reefs offer some of the best diving in Southeast Asia.

April – June: Transition & Migration Season

Galápagos: Whale shark season begins! The cooler, nutrient-rich waters attract these magnificent giants to Darwin and Wolf islands. This is the premier destination for big animal encounters.

Red Sea: Perfect conditions prevail with warm water (24-28°C) and calm seas. Excellent for wreck diving and reef exploration before the summer heat.

Indonesia (Komodo): Dry season kicks in with calmer seas and better visibility. Manta season is in full swing at sites like Manta Alley.

Maldives (West Side): The southwest monsoon shifts manta aggregations to the western atolls. Hanifaru Bay sees massive feeding events with 100+ mantas.

Azores: Blue shark and mobula ray season. The remote Atlantic islands offer unique pelagic encounters unavailable elsewhere.

Canada (British Columbia): Cold-water diving at its finest with giant Pacific octopus, wolf eels, and incredible marine biodiversity.

October – December: Transition to Peak Season

Raja Ampat: October marks the start of prime season in the ‘Amazon of the Seas.’ Expect the world’s highest marine biodiversity, manta cleaning stations, and pygmy seahorses.

Palau: Conditions improve with November bringing clearer water and fewer crowds. Jellyfish Lake reopens, and shark dives are spectacular.

Socorro Islands: Giant manta season begins. These remote Mexican islands offer encounters with friendly, curious mantas unlike anywhere else on Earth.

Year-Round Destinations

Some destinations deliver consistently throughout the year: Cozumel (Mexico) offers reliable drift diving, Bonaire provides unlimited shore diving, and the Maldives always has something to offer regardless of monsoon direction.
